In Group 2022 Service Academy Gender Relations Survey

Details

The 2022 U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) Gender Relations Survey: Overview Report (2022 SAGR) presents results on unwanted sexual contact and sex-based military equal opportunity (MEO) violations (gender discrimination and sexual harassment). The purpose of the 2022 SAGR is to provide the official prevalence estimates for unwanted sexual contact and MEO violations among USMMA students in the past academic program year and statistical change of those estimates over time. The 2022 SAGR also assesses sexual assault/sexual harassment reporting and complaint processes; measures midshipman attitudes toward and perceptions of sexual assault and sexual harassment programs and policies designed to reduce the occurrence of these unwanted behaviors; and examines the gender relations climate(s). Data were collected for the 2022 SAGR at the USMMA in two waves, from March 21 through March 25, 2022, and from August 29 through 30, 2022. The Health and Resilience Research Division of the Office of People Analytics has been conducting congressionally mandated gender relations surveys of the DoD Military Service Academies since 2005 and the U.S. Coast Guard Academy since 2008; USMMA has participated in the SAGR since 2012. The SAGR is normally fielded every other year, however, the SAGR was not administered in 2020 due to restrictions on travel and the Coronavirus Pandemic. The last time the SAGR was administered was in 2018.
