This survey note summarizes results from analyses conducted on the 2019 Workplace and Equal Opportunity Survey of Reserve Component Members (2019 WEOR) to examine the relationships among various aspects of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) climate and the experience of racial/ethnic harassment and/or discrimination among Reserve component members. Findings reveal that a variety of targetable DEI climate indicators are associated with the experience of racial/ethnic harassment/discrimination among Reserve component members. Specifically, ensuring leader commitment to eradicating racial/ethnic harassment/discrimination, decreasing disrespectful behaviors in the workplace, and promoting a unit reporting climate that not only encourages those who experience racial/ethnic harassment/discrimination to come forward, but also holds those accountable who engage in racial/ethnic harassment/discrimination would likely reduce the occurrence of racial/ethnic harassment/discrimination in the Reserve component for both Racial/Ethnic Minority and Non-Hispanic White members alike.
